At GISN, we work along with the businesses and organizations that you use to ensure that they are providing reasonable accommodations to you under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Why Ask for GISN?

  1. We are a private, not-for-profit organization.
  2. GISN only contracts with nationally certified & professional interpreters.
  3. Our interpreters are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (including holidays).
  4. We specialize in legal, medical, educational, governmental, employment & community events, as well as emergency medical and legal situations.

Helpful Tips about Requesting an Interpreter

  1. Explain to the business, doctor, employer, or other provider why you feel a certified interpreter is necessary in as much detail as you can.
  2. Make your request for a sign language interpreter with the provider as early as possible.
  3. Do not use signing family members or friends to interpret for you, they may not tell you correct and objective information.
  4. If a provider tells you “no,” ask them to explain why in writing.
  5. Keep in mind that the ADA does not cover all situations in which you may require an interpreter.

How Do I Make Sure that the Best Interpreter is Selected for My Needs?

In addition to following the above tips, GISN invites you to tell us about yourself and your needs.  Your information is kept strictly confidential, and is only accessed when scheduling interpreters for you.  While we will make every effort to accommodate your needs, we cannot guarantee the availability of particular interpreters for any specific request.
